Primary Memory Unit holds data temporarily.

  • It is the main memory of computer system.
  • It has limited storage and because of this it is very expensive.
  • It loses the data or information stored in it as when the computer system switches off or resets and that's why primary memory is volatile.
  • It is often referred as temporary memory.
  • It is made up of semiconductor devices.
  • In this memory, the stored pieces of data is directly accessed by CPU at a very fast speed.
  • The primary memory has two parts -

                 (1) Random Access Memory (RAM) and,

                (2) Read Only Memory (ROM)
