Sri Lanka's ethnic composition consists of 74% sinhala speaking people mainly Buddhist. . 18%tamils(13% srilankan and 5% indian). .. when Sri Lankan govt. Made sinhala the official language. ..It irritated the srilankan tamils and they felt alienated from rest..... They wanted equal rights and importance to their language too. .
