The company struggled with several financial crises and struggled to get loans from Calcutta banks. But despite numerous efforts, none of the banks they approached gave them a loan. At that point these gentlemen felt the need for a local bank in Assam.
Upen Changkakot, eldest son of Nalini Bala Devi and grandson of Nabin Chandra Bardoloi, was called in to look after the works of the bank. At that time, Upen was doing his post-graduation in Calcutta and returned to Gauhati after his B.Com final examination to become the bank's first manager under Gauri Kanta Talukdar.
