Although there were famines in India during the 1940's especially the Great Famine of Bengal which caused a lot of destruction to the people and to the environmental resources. However, the famines did not cease to stop the business in various fields of business in India.
The important industries that were not affected by the famines in India during the 1940's were -
1. The industry for making jute bags, leather boots, arms, ammunition, etc. They were to be supplied to the military and so they could not be stopped.
2. The famine also did affect the business in the Banarasi sarees and Baluchari sarees.
3. The fine textiles and raw cotton material for weaving textiles were in huge demand in Europe. So, their exports could not be stopped.
