A French humanist Etienne Dolet was executed simply for the reason that he mistranslated one of the dialogues of Plato. He published a brief outline of the principles of interpretation named as  "La-maniere de bien traduire d'une langue en aultre" which meant "How to Translate properly from one Language into Another".
