While diluting an acid why it is recommended that acid should be added to water and not water to acid ?​

Because adding water as a solute is a very high exothermic process hence adding water will leads to burst upcoming of the acid which may cause severe burn to the user. So it is recommended to pour acid in water not water to acid.
