While diluting an acid why it is recommendrd that the acid should be added to water and not water to acid in very short answer in one point?

It is said that acid should be added to water slowly but not water to acid because few acids have strong attraction towards water .thus when water will be added into acid then the acid will try to jump out of the beaker...and it will be explosive. The actual view point is that ...it is an exothermic reaction and will release a plenty of heat and it will cause an explotion.but  if we add acid into water then the released heat will be dissipated into the bulk of water.thus no explotion will occur.
