while doing an experiment to determine the boiling point of water a student heated water in a beaker and observe that when water starts boiling the temperature remains constant state the reason where does the heat energy go

The heat energy is consumed by the water to change its state i.e. from liquid to vapour form.

That hidden heat is said to be latent heat.
