) While painting a wall Rhythm has to make green paint by mixing blue, yellow and white paints
in the ratio 2 : 5 : 1. Help Rhythm to find out the quantity of blue, yellow and white paint if he requires 64 litres of green paint.

GIVEN -

Total green paint required = 64ltr

Ratio of blue, yellow and white paint = 2:5:1

To find -

Quantity of blue, yellow and white paint to make green paint.

Solution -

Let the common ratio be "x"

Then,

2 = 2x

5 = 5x

1 = 1x

On substituting the values:-

→ 2x + 5x + 1x = 64

→ 8x = 64

→ x = $\cancel{\dfrac{64}{8}}$

→ x = 8

Finding the quantities:-

• Blue paint = 2x = 2 × 8 = 16ltr

• Yellow paint = 5x = 5 × 8 = 40ltr

• White paint = 1x = 1 × 8 = 8ltr

Verification:-

By placing 8 in place of x then -

2(8) + 5(8) + 1(8) = 64

16 + 40 + 8 = 64

64 = 64

LHS = RHS

Hence, proved !

∴ Rhythm require 16ltrs of blue paint, 40ltrs of yellow paint and 8ltrs of white paint.
