While testing the presence of starch in a leaf, teacher first kept the leaf in boiling water than transferred it to alcohol in a water bath. Give reason for both steps.

The leaf is kept in the boiling water to kill its cells.

Then it is boiled in the methylated spirit(alcohol) over a water bath till it becomes pale white, this is done to remove chlorophyll.
