While using an acid, why it is recommended that the acid should be added to water and not water to the acid?

Answer: because if you add water to acid it forms an concentrated solution of acid only. So much heat is released that it even can harm yourself. It releases more heat cuz it is exothermic. That is why we add acid to the water so as to mix acid gradually with water without have heat evolution.
