It is only a host of ghosts that accompany the poet on his visit to meet the listeners.
In the poem “The Listeners” by Walter De La Mara creates a sense of mystery, suspense and strange wonder amongst the readers.
Through the poem he invites the readers to be a part of the journey of an unknown traveller.
He visits a lonely castle deep inside a forest and knocks the door expecting to meet some listeners. But to his dismay only a host of ghost show up.
The poem then depicts the rest of the journey.
