As its been famous in the history of Goa, that specifically this western area of India was colonized by the Portuguese. It was freed from them on 19 December 1961, more than four centuries after it was colonized.

They were the ones who tried to take over this area by claiming it as their own. Considering after the British, states must have thought that this state would have become weakened. So they tried to takeover.


The fight for freedom began in the 1940's the end of rule of British India.
