He qualified for the World Athletics Championships in marathon, to be held in Doha in September-October 2019.

He achieved it after finishing 11th in the Seoul International Marathon, clocking his personal best time of 2 hours 13 minutes 39 seconds.

This was the 2nd best ever by an Indian after the 4-decade old national record of 2 hours 12 minutes held by Shivnath Singh.
