Miss Betsey is the great-grand-aunt of David Copperfield. When he runs from his evil stepfather's plant, she takes David into her home; she also educates David at a good school and then pays for his internship at the law office in the London Law District.

It appears all of Miss Betsey's  money was lost due to Mr. Wickfield, her business manager

Explanation:

In this novel, Miss Betsey is one of the most caring characters: she cares for Mr. Dicck, who was is unwell by mind  and mistreated by his brother. And she also hides her suspicions that it is Mr. Wickfield, her business manager, who has wasted and misused all of her money and left her poor.

For his own sake and for the sake of his daughter , Agnes, she wants to save the name of Mr. Wickfield. The generosity of Miss Betsey is rewarded with respect to and affection of her, of David himself, particularly, all the nice people of the novel.
