Recently, I found myself wanting to know more about my state's history. So I googled for any ebooks, and searched flipkart. Surprisingly, I found no book in English on the History of Assam. But fortunately, I found a book with a cousin of mine, that goes by the exact same name. It was written by a British officer by the name of Edward Gait, who was deployed here, and took a certain interest in Assam's history and culture for some reason, and wrote the book. It is the only one (in English) I have come across thus far. You will find quite a bit about the Ahoms, among other Assamese dynasties, in the book.The Ahoms were a dynasty that ruled in present day Assam for 600 years, quite possibly one of the top 5 longest reigning empires from India.
