They were known as gold-collar workers who were working in free enterprise -mainly private corporations. But the sudden onset of financial crisis reduced their wealth with increasing working hours. So people were attracted to jobs with stable income and permanence. The civil servants were regarded as red-collar workers fittingly in tune with red political power of China

People who are engaged in primary activities such as agriculture are called red collar workers.
