Sati was banned by William Bentick, former vice roy of British India and Raja Ram Mohan Roy.

Sati was a cruel social evil where the wife of a dead person should die along with him or the relatives forcefully make her to die.

Meanwhile, the husband can live when his wife dies. This is a type discrimination and stupid social practise according to many social reformers.
