The Lok Sabha is also known as the lower house of the Parliament of India. Members of parliament of Lok Sabha are selected by open elections on the basis of adult voting.
A person who satisfies all the following conditions can contest to become a member of parliament of the Lok Sabha;
- He/she must be a citizen of India.
- He/she must not be less than 25 years of age.
- He/she must be a voter for any parliamentary district in India.
- He/she should be a candidate of a recognised political party and needs one proposer from his/her constituency for his/her nomination.
- An independent candidate requires ten proposers.
- He/she is obliged to make a security deposit of ₹25,000 (US$310).
