Laplace corrected Newton's formula of speed of sound, because it needed a correction because the speed of sound wasn't pretty much being measured as the true value.
Newton had assumed the propogation of sound an Isothermal process, however, Laplace added this by saying that propogation of sound was indeed an adiabatic process, which ultimately led to the Formula for speed of sound as √gamma*Pressure/Density
And the value calculated from this sound was matching with the experimentally observed value.
