the war changed the life of nicola and jacopo. war snatched all the comfort and joy from their life and exposed them to a life full of miseries and want. They lost their father and mother. Moreover, their sister luicia developed tuberculosis of spine. These two boys had to fend for themselves. they worked day and night. They considered no work to be menial. They were always present at the beck and call of the narrator. This was all because of that "never die spirit" that their parents gave them. They are indeed two gentlemen in my eyes.
