Benzene was discovered by Michael Faraday in 1825.

- During an experiment with illuminating gas used in lighting, Michael Faraday isolated a new shiny compound.
- This molecule had same no of carbon as well as hydrogen, hence Faraday named it bicarburet of hydrogen.
- Later it's name was changed to benzene after further experiments by other scientists.
