Cell was discovered by Robert Hook in 1665 using a microscope . The first cell theory is credited to the work of Thedor Schwann and Matthias Jakob in the 1830's

Robert Hooke discovered the cell in 1665. While examining a thin layer of cork, he saw that cork resembled the structure of honeycomb consisting of many little compartment and named this Cell.
