A cell is the structural and functional unit of a living beings.
Cells were discovered by Robert Hooke in and 1665.
He studied at thin piece of cork under his microscope. He observed that the cork piece had a large number of compartments joined together in a honeycomb like structure. He named these compartments as cell.
