Until 1676, it was believed that light was instantaneous. That year, the Danish astronomer Ole Roemer noticed that the telescope, compared with his calculations, there was a delay of 22 minutes in the eclipses of Jupiter's moons. Roemer concluded that the delay corresponded to the time that the light carrying the satellites to reach the Earth at a speed that was estimated at 225,000 km per second. But the correct value 299 792 km / s would be determined only in 1926 by German physicist Albert Michelson. To reach this number, honed during 25 years Michelson interferometer, a device that measures fixed mirrors in the bending of light reflected by rotating mirrors.
