Discovered in 1954, Lothal was excavated from 13 February 1955 to 19 May 1960 by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), the official Indian government agency for the preservation of ancient monuments.

Explanation:

  • About 2400 BC, this city is located in the Bhal region of the state of Gujarat and its discovery was done in 1954.
  • Lothal is connected by paved road from Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Bhavnagar and Dholka cities, the nearest city is Dholka and Bagodara.
  • In 1961, the Indian Archaeological Survey resumed the excavation work, and during excavation of the eastern and western sides of the mound, dug the vessels which were attached to the dock by the river. Major searches include a mound, a city, a market place and a dock.
