Hey there !
René Haüy discovered that emeralds and beryls crystals are geometrically identical. He asked Vauquelin for a chemical analysis, and so Vauquelin found a new "earth" (beryllium oxide). Sir David Brewster (1781–1868) was a Scottishphysicist, who studied the optical properties of minerals.
Hope it helps you !
