President in India is not directly elected by the people but by the representatives elected by the people. The President is indirectly elected by the people through elected members of both the houses of the Parliament of India, and the Legislative Assemblies of all the states of India and the Legislative Assembly of the Union Territory of Puducherry.
And also by the Legislative Assembly of the National Capital Territory of Delhi.
