National Conference was established by Sheikh Abdullah and Chaudhry Ghulam Abbas in the state of Jammu and Kashmir.
The Jammu & Kashmir National Conference or JKNC was founded as All Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference on 15th October 1932 when Jammu and Kashmir was considered as princely state.
The organisation soon renamed itself in 1939 as "National Conference" in order to portray themselves as the representative of the people of the state. The party extended their support in the accession of the princely state during 1947 to India .
In 1941, Ghulam Abbas led group severed their ties with the National Conference in order to revive the old Muslim Conference.
Over the years the party established land reforms in the state and ensured that the state enjoyed autonomy as per the under Article 370. In 1957 it also created a separate Constitution of Jammu and Kashmir .
