Answer:

Mike Klonsky was national secretary of sds in 1968. Like many radical students in the antiwar movement, he saw the Vietnam War as the logical result of a fundamentally racist and imperialist United States. Increasingly, sds’ leadership identified with the Black Panthers and the third world, calling themselves “revolutionary communists” and emulating leaders like China’s Mao Zedong, Cuba’s Fidel Castro, and Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh. Here Klonsky argues that campus-based activism must be rejected and that sds should link up with working class people to build the revolution. Klonsky and others formed the Revolutionary Youth Movement faction of sds. Some left to create the underground Weatherman group. Others went into the New Communist Movement, made up of many small organizations, such as the Communist Party (Marxist-Leninist), which Klonsky headed in the 1970s.
