Tilak was replenished with an incentive for assassination and condemned to 18 months imprisonment. After completing his 18 months imprisonment he was honored as a saint and a national champion.

Later, he embraced a new proverb "Swaraj (self-rule) is my birthright and I shall have it."

As Lord Curzon the partition of Bengal, to minimize the nationalist campaign, Tilak advocated the Swadeshi movement and the Boycott movement in order to increase the awareness among the smaller classes to fight for the cause of Independence.
