Gallantry awards 2016. President Pranab Mukherjee has conferred the country's highest peacetime gallantry award Ashok Chakra to Lance Naik Mohan Nath Goswami posthumously.

Lance Naik Nazir Ahmad Wani. On the eve of Republic Day on 26-January-19, President Ram Nath Kovind awarded the Ashok Chakra to the slain militant-turned-soldier who had sacrificed his life fighting for the country.

He was killed in an insurgency operation in Kashmir during November last year. The highest award was received by his mother from the President of India. He is the first person from Kashmir to be conferred with this high award.
