Dr Rajendra Prasad headed the meetings of the Constituent Assembly. He was elected as the first President of the Assembly and the Indian Republic. Soon after, he also became the President of the first parliament of India due to election by the electoral college.

He was imprisoned by the British for his participation in the Salt Satyagraha and Quit India movements.
