England help Uruguay to be freed from Brazil and Argentina
Through the “Treaty of Montevideo of 1828” and British mediation the independence of Uruguay was recognized by Brazil and Argentina.
Around 1828, a war between Argentina and Brazil was flamed up because of a navigation misunderstanding over the Plata River. With help of Britain, Argentina and Brazil begun their peace talk over the navigation issue. The peace talk ended up showing Argentina’s unwillingness to allow Brazil to retain sovereignty over Uruguay and Brazil’s unwillingness over Argentina’s annexation of land in Cisplatine provience.
To resolve this issue, Lord Jhon Ponsonby proposed the idea of Independent Uruguay. After some failed negotiations and unwillingness to spend more money on war Argentina and Brazil strike the deal finally to form Independent Uruguay.
