Bindeshwar Pathak initiated the Sulabh Cleanliness and Reform Movement. He is the recipient of many awards and was declared the Indian Affairs Social Reformer of the Year 2017.
Pathak first understood the sufferings of scavengers when he joined Bhangi-Mukthi in 1968. Following this, in 1970, he set up the Sulabh International Social Service Organization. His sanitation movement focuses on cleanliness and avoid greenhouse gas emission. According to him, the toilet is the first thing that should change towards adopting cleanliness.
