Thomas Newcomen invented a first steam pump but he called it 'water by fire' he invented it in 1698 for the purpose of pumping out water and in 1711 he modified his engine and led a new technology

But James Watt was the person who remodeled the steam engine in around 1764. He made a new model of steam engine He realised that it (old model of steam engine) was hopelessly inefficient and began to work to improve the design.
