Coachman Ali is the central character of the chapter 'The Letter'. He was a clever shikari and even he had the hunter's instinct in hisblood and bones.He was a determinant person and also a person having a lots of patience.

The chapter deals with the story of a old young man Ali who went to the post office daily in search for his daughter's letter.


Ali was a brilliant hunter who left hunting after he realized the pain behind separation. He had only one daughter Miriam who went to Punjab after her marriage and Ali was left all alone.


He went to the post office daily in hope of getting a letter from her daughter but unfortunately was never able to get it.
