A custodian is a financial institution that is responsible to look after the securities of the people minimising the risk of theft or loss. These assets are looked after either in electronic or physical form which may be worth hundred or thousand or million or billion dollars. They are large reputable firms which are often known as "custodian bank".


RBI(Reserve Bank Of India) is known as the custodian of India's foreign exchange reserve. According to the law, all the foreign exchange receipts either of private account or government account earned from exports, investment of capital receipts has to b sold to the RBI directly or through authorized dealers.
