Charles Darwin is often called the "Father of Evolution," but there was much more to the man than just his scientific papers and literary works. In fact, Charles Darwin was much more than just the guy who came up with the Theory of Evolution. His life and story is an interesting read. Did you know he helped shape what we know now as the discipline of Psychology? He also has a sort of "double" connection to Abraham Lincoln and didn't have to look past his own family reunion to find his wife.

Charles Darwin (1809-1822) first described the idea of evolution in his book "The origin of species ", published in 1839.

Charles Darwin was the first scientist to publish a coherent theory of Evolution by Natural selection. He wasn’t the first to intuitively suspect that species evolved from a common ancestor, but he was the first to publish a coherent theory and bring forth evidence for it.

He actually sat on his discovery for about 20 years and published it only when he realized someone else was coming up with a similar theory.

His two biggest contributions would be micro-evolution, and macro-evolution.

Micro-evolution is deviation within exsisting genetic material. We see this with dogs. No new organs, just amplified or selectively bred traits. Unchallenged in the last century as far as I know.

Macro-evolution is what we think of as evolution, fish turning into frogs etc. This is highly controversial.

hope this helps
