Tipu Sultan was well known for his determination, confidence that made him reckoned among the group of freedom warriors fight against Britishers. The title tiger of Mysore conferred to Tippu Sultan for his braveness with which he faced tough situations when placed against the cunning and cruel British regime.

First Anglo-Mysore War (1767–69) saw Hyder Ali obtain some measure of victory upon the British, by nearly conquering Madras

Second Mysore War (1780–84)

This war observed bloodier conflicts with fortunes shifting between the armies of Mysore and east India company. Tipu achieved the victory at Baillie at the Campaign of Pollilur in September.

Third Anglo-Mysore War (1790–92), Tipu Sultan, the administration of Mysore and a confederate of France, attacked the state of Travancore in 1789 which was a British confederate

The Fourth Anglo-Mysore War (1798–99) witnessed the death of Tipu Sultan and this brought Mysore under the control of the British government.
