The Prime Minister of India is the Head of the Union Government. Prime Minister candidate is selected by people through voting. President candidate is nominated by ruling party and generally he gets selected by members of Loksabha and Rajyasabha as ruling party has the majority.

Although the President has the power of sending a bill back to the parliament for reconsideration, if the bill is passed for the second time he is bound to pass the bill and moreover he cannot dismiss the bill that has been passed by the both houses of Parliament.

The President has the power to appoint ministers or remove them. He/she also has power to appoint important officials like attorney general of India, comptroller and auditor general of India, chairman and members of the UPSC, election commissioners, chairman and members of the finance commission and so on.

But it's always done on the advise of Prime Minister ( so indirectly it's the Prime Minister who is in charge of the appointment ).

So to conclude as India is a democratic country, leader selected by people i.e. Prime Minister is more powerful and He/she takes all the important decisions.

hope this helps you!!
