Answer:

Hey there,

If one reads Treasure Trove it can be found that the natives considered the Great Spirit as their God. In this book which is a collection of short stories, the natives followed the beliefs of their ancestors.

With time, many natives move to the west to earn a living and got civilized seeing the modern world and forgot the roots and the natives.

Thanks for asking.

Answer:

The great spirit is referred to as a God of the natives. He seems to have forgotten them because he doesn't protect them and not been in favour of them.
