I’ll agree that it is government, but not for the reasons so far in evidence.

Government measures economic success as GDP which contains both financial and advertising sectors. These were EXPLICITLY excluded by the person who invented the measure, as they are non-productive.

Governments use debt backed money, on which there is effectively no limit. Any amount can be created (borrowed) as long as the bankers are willing.

Government is captured at present, by the illegitimate spawn of Gordon Gekko and Ayn Rand and as a result it is under the control of neo-liberals who are happy to support inequality and greed, and do not mind if un-costed externalities fall on future generations.

People acting as individuals can only count on sacrificing themselves to the effort to end pollution, and the corporations are happy to take advantage of this. To act on one’s own while competing with those who do not, is simply a fancy way to commit suicide. Only government (the collective will of the people) is capable of applying a rule to everyone in a nation so that none are disadvantaged. This is an effect of the “tragedy of the commons”.

Yet it is people. The reason why is that people do ELECT the government, and if people are willing to remain ignorant and people are willing to accept fools to lead them, then the fools in office are still less culpable than the fools who put them there.

Hope it will help you
