The Sri Lankan Government's ANTI-TAMIL policies were responsible for the creations of LTTE and other Tamil militant groups in Sri Lanka. Since Independence Sri Lankan Tamils were fighting peacefully against the Sri Lankan Govt by agitating and peaceful demonstrations. But these peaceful agitations were either ignored or supressed brutally.
Seeing all this many youths lost faith in peaceful agitations and decided to retaliate with Force. In 1970's many Tamil youth groups emerged which later turned into Militant groups. One such group was TNT (TAMIL NEW TIGERS) founded in 1972 by Velupillai Prabhakaran along with few other youths. Later in 1976 with new recruits its name was changed into LTTE (LIBERATION TIGERS OF TAMIL EELAM).
During Indira Gandhi's rule in India she ordered RAW- Research ans Analysis Wing (India's Intelligence Agency) to train LTTE. RAW provided fund and arms to LTTE and other militant groups from 1983 to 1987.
