The first president of China was Sun Yat-sen(1866–1925). He served as a provisional president from January 1, 1912 to March 10, 1912 and was later on succeeded by Yuan Shikai who declared himself dictator. On December 29, 1911, he was elected by representatives from provinces in Nanking. Sun Yat-sen is referred to as the “Father of the Nation” in the Republic of China and the “forerunner of democratic revolution” in the People’s Republic of China.
