She was born in Ratnapura, Srilanka on 17th April in 1916. She was the leader of the Srilanka Freedom Party.
She served as Prime Minister for three terms 1960 to 1965, 1970 to 1977 and 1994 to 2000.
She was the first female to be elected as head of the government in the world.
She died on October 10th 2000 in Colombo, Srilanka.
