Answer:
The Day that Telly Broke Down by Lindsay McCrae is a a comic look at a serious problem amongst young children today which is watching excessive Television and the in case the TV breaks down how children get upset not being able to watch TV rather than doing something constructive in place of watching TV
The children here is so desperate to get the TV working that they tried all options. However, the children's mother suggest that since the TV has broken down, the children can opt to complete their homework, do something creative in terms of art/craft, or help her with the household chores such as washing clothes.
Children could also consider helping with the ironing, going out for a walk, or teaching the parrot to do something other than squawk, or do as they did in the olden days, that is talk
However the children are not interested in any of the above and instead they are considering options such as buying a new TV, or getting the old tv repaired or siting their rooms wailing ht life has been so unfair to them since they cannot watch TV anymore.
In this poem, the poet conveys the message that in almost every house we see children gaping at the screen. They stare with their eyes wide open and with absolute concentration of mind. They don't seem to move, because they probably forget all in the real world. Instead, the one they watch on the television becomes real for the time being. They have no scope of spending time with nature, and interacting with others, or helping parents in doing the household chores. Their minds are only filled with the stories and images of a virtual world
