The "Portuguese sailor" who proved that the "earth is round" is "Ferdinand Magellan". He was the one who had organized the "Spanish Expedition" to East Indies from the years 1519 to 1522. This expedition was completed by "Juan Sebastian Elcano".  Through this expedition the "first circumnavigation of the earth" took place resulting in the conclusion that the "earth is round". The route he discovered is now named as the "Strait of Magellan" after him.
