CV Raman got nobel prize for discovering Raman effect.

During a long sea voyage to Europe in 1921 Indian physicist C.V. Raman wondered why the sky was blue. The answer to this deceptively simple question, when he finally unravelled it, was promptly dubbed the Raman Effect and won him the 1930 Nobel Prize for physics.

India celebrates National Science Day on 28th Feb each year in the memory of CV Raman.
