Let me explain,Once youtube has announced monetization and also after hearing about people’s success on youtube , many started to have their own channel.
Not all, but most of the people create videos and upload in youtube only to earn money . So how to make money in youtube? They have to create videos which get lot of views and comments and shares etc…So how to get views, comments etc…? The content of the video should attract many category of people.If not the content atleast the TITLE OF THE VIDEO :-p.
That is why most people choose poltics,cenima,music,sports,funny videos, accident videos,etc…as their content because they generally attract lot of people.
Therefore for any video to get popular the content of the video matters a lot.
And the 2nd thing is , ALGORITHM. Mostly the trending video will be music,sports,news,trailers,poltics..wonder why?
Let me explain,The only way youtube is so successful because it keeps us hooked.We start by searching “How to be productive?” but after 3 hours we will be watching some cooking video :-p.Their algorithm is created in such a way that we spend a lot of time in it and watch videos. It keeps us engaged .Because the more videos you watch the more they earn.
Like wise,even the trending section is created to just engage us.After searching about everything we know we go out of ideas on what to search for,at that point to keep us hooked into the app or website they have their trending section. In trending section we need not search,everything which attracts us are already lined up we just have to click.
Youtube considers that contents such as poltics , movie trailers , gossips , games , news , attracts every category of people . So they have designed their algorithm to choose only videos with such contents and arrange them according to their number of views,comments,likes,shares etc…!! That is why vlog channels ,though they have lot of views and comments, do not trend, because it attract only certain percentage of the people.
The algorithm varies for each country. It depends upon the behaviour of the users.They have a special team just to make such study and create algorithms.
( youtube does not know the content of the video when it gets uploaded , it uses the title and tags to know the content of the video.That is why the uploaders uses good title and tags for rubbish and useless videos.Becsuse what they need is only views .They are called CLICKBAITS)
